I was very sorry for Todd because now I think the gravity of Stella's words were finally sinking in. I tried to console him. He left for the USA and several months later wrote that he still could not forget Stella. A year later he came to the Russian Ladies socials again and joked "don't let me get into a trouble with another waitress." He met many wonderful Russian ladies but departed without commitment. "After what happened with Stella, I am afraid to fall in love with another Russian lady." I was sad for him, but he simply was his own worst enemy.

This story is not typical. Most Russian ladies are just normal down-to-earth ladies and most men are more socially aware and adroit than Todd, and of course most waitresses do not dance in strip shows. And, it is always better to meet a Russian lady in a supportive environment, where an interpreter or your peers will collectively give you crucial feedback. And, it is always better to meet Russian ladies in the context of many other ladies. Stella would have stood out like a sore thumb in contrast to the other ladies at a matchmaking event.
