After the socials they went to dinner. Before they sat down Ludmila insisted that Mike read the menu first to be sure that he was comfortable with the prices. Before ordering Ludmila asked me to find out how many courses Mike ordered - so that she did not order more than he did. Then she gave some of her food to him so that he could taste everything on the table! After dinner she suggested they go to a cinema. She knew one in Moscow that showed movies in English. I decided I had better leave them at this point, since Ludmila could speak some basic English. We agreed to meet the next morning at 10AM in the hotel lobby. The next day Ludmila hardly took her eyes off Mike. She was holding his hand and talking to him non-stop, mostly about him, and in general showing affection with every small gesture and glance. Mike told me at the end of the day that he was not used to such affection -so openly given and with such obvious pleasure.

Ludmila told me that she was afraid it was all happening in a dream. She had been waiting too long to find such a man and become an overseas Russian bride and found it hard to believe now. When we met the next day she announced that we were not going to eat out any more because she would prepare a whole meal for us at her home. The meal was really delicious. Mike tried to offer his help but Ludmila, like any Russian lady, said such things are not for men. Mike asked me to find out why on several occasions, Ludmila seemed to argue with taxi drivers, bartenders, and waitresses.
